Ebru Demir is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanics at Lehigh University, part of the Rossin College of Engineering. She holds a BS and PhD in Mechatronics Engineering from Sabanci University, Istanbul, Turkey, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Mechanical Engineering at Santa Clara University before joining Lehigh.
Her research focuses on interdisciplinary applications of fluid mechanics, machine learning, and robotics, particularly in biomedical and environmental contexts. Key areas include locomotion in complex fluids and biofluids, microswimmer design for targeted drug delivery, and smart low-Re swimmers. She explores these topics across scales, from bioinspired microscale systems to larger robotic platforms.
Her work emphasizes collaborations to develop flow-based medical devices, leveraging rapid prototyping and experimental design. Recent research trends in her publications highlight investigations into microswimmer propulsion in heterogeneous and shear-thinning fluids, caged squirmer dynamics, and neutrobot minimal models.
Ebru leads the DEMIR_Lab at Lehigh, advancing innovations in microfluidics and biomedical robotics. Her scholarship bridges mechanical engineering with biomedical applications, addressing challenges in healthcare and environmental engineering.
