Ebrahim Bagheri is a Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds dual Canada Research Chairs: the Canada Research Chair in Social Information Retrieval and an NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Social Media Analytics. As Program Director for Computer Engineering, he leads the NSERC CREATE program on Responsible Development of AI (RAI), a 6-year collaborative initiative involving TMU, Waterloo, Western, UQAM, and McGill. He directs the Laboratory for Systems, Software and Semantics.
He has secured over $11M in research grants and has advised 70+ graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, many now in academia (e.g., Assistant Professors at Windsor, TMU, Guelph) or industry (e.g., Facebook, Microsoft, IBM). His awards include the 2019 NSERC Synergy Award for industry-academia collaboration and 2016 Young Engineer of the Year Award.
Research focuses on software engineering, semantic technologies, web mining, and intelligent systems. Recent publications emphasize software product line engineering, feature model configuration, and requirement specification analysis. His work bridges theoretical advancements with industry-relevant solutions in AI ethics and social media analytics.
