EMILIO MARAÑON SAINZ

Emilio Marañon Sainz is a full-time Professor at the Faculty of Marine Sciences, University of Vigo, Spain. He is affiliated with the Department of Ecology and Animal Biology and works at the Marine Research Center of the University of Vigo.

Dr. Marañon earned his PhD from the University of Oviedo in 1995 with a thesis on 'Patterns of incorporation of photoassimilated carbon in natural populations of marine phytoplankton. Effect of hydrographic processes and changes in taxonomic composition' under the supervision of Dr. Ricardo Anadon Alvarez.

Research interests: His research focuses on marine ecology and phytoplankton biology, examining how environmental factors such as temperature, nutrients, and turbulence affect phytoplankton community structure and primary production. His work spans diverse marine environments including the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and coastal upwelling systems like the Ría de Vigo.
