Elena De Falco is an Associate Professor at Sapienza University of Rome's Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine, Department of Medical-Surgical Sciences and Biotechnologies. Since November 2024, she also serves as Head of Pathologist at the Clinical Pathology Unit, ICOT Latina. Her academic credentials include a PhD in Immunology (2006) and a specialization in Clinical Pathology and Biochemistry (2021), both from Sapienza University.
Her research integrates stem cell biology, cardiovascular pathophysiology, and molecular oncology, with emphases on:
- Mesenchymal stem cell plasticity in tissue regeneration
- Oxidative stress mechanisms in cardiovascular/metabolic diseases
- Epigenetic regulation of stromal cells in cancer microenvironments
- Novel biomaterials for disease modeling
Recent publications (2022–2025) demonstrate a strong focus on translational medicine, including studies on cardiac stromal cells under metabolic stress, tumor microenvironment modulation, and the pathophysiological effects of environmental toxins. Recurring themes include autophagy dysregulation, redox signaling, and extracellular vesicle biology.
She directs the Experimental Pathology and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory, collaborating internationally on projects such as SUR-VAPES (assessing tobacco impacts on vascular health).
