Dörthe Engelcke

Dörthe Engelcke is a Senior Research Fellow and Provisional Head of the Centre of Expertise for the Law of Arab and Islamic Countries. Her research focuses on Islamic Law, Muslim Family Law, Legal Pluralism, and socio-legal dynamics in the Middle East and North Africa.

• Education: M.A. in Near and Middle Eastern Studies (SOAS), D.Phil. in Oriental Studies (University of Oxford).
• Research Areas: Intersections of Islamic and Christian personal status laws, legal pluralism, and legal politics in the Arab world.
