Dr. Dylan Wagner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at The Ohio State University, affiliated with the Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Brain Imaging and the Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Science. He holds a PhD from Dartmouth College (2011) and a BA from McGill University (2003). His research explores the neural basis of person perception and self-regulation failures, using techniques like fMRI and machine learning. Key areas include social cognition, reward systems, and the brain mechanisms underlying self-control.
Research Interests:
- Neural representation of self and others
- Social perception and media influence
- Self-regulation and desire control
- Public health implications of behavioral neuroscience
Notable Articles:
Recent work includes studies on political polarization's neural correlates, e-cigarette use patterns in youth, and the link between loneliness and blurred boundaries between real and fictional others. His articles often bridge cognitive neuroscience with real-world behaviors, such as predicting self-regulation failures through brain imaging.
Awards:
- Rising Star Award (APS, 2015)
- Fellowships from Summer Institute in Cognitive Neuroscience (2013, 2009)
Lab & Collaborations:
His Wagner Lab oversees graduate students like Rani Bawa and Huanqing Wang, focusing on topics like parasocial relationships and neural mechanisms of social decision-making. The lab's work has been featured in documentaries and media outlets like Scientific American.
