Professor Dylan Thompson is a Professor of Human Physiology and Deputy Head of Department at the Department for Health, University of Bath. He co-directs the Centre for Nutrition, Exercise and Metabolism (CNEM), focusing on physical activity, nutrition, and their impact on chronic diseases.
- Research Interests: Physical activity and energy balance; Adipose tissue function; Exercise and nutrition metabolism; Immunometabolism; Applications to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recent Projects include BBSRC/ESA collaborations on bed rest countermeasures, MRC-funded weight loss metabolism studies, NIHR feasibility trials for Coronary Artery Disease reversal, and BBSRC research on vitamin D mobilization.
- Scientific Awards: Fellow of The Physiological Society; Fellow of British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences; Editorial roles in journals; Grant panel memberships (BBSRC, MRC, Finland, Norway).
Advising and Funding: Supervised over 30 PhD/MD students; attracted £8 million in external funding from BBSRC, MRC, NIHR, and The Wellcome Trust.
Public Engagement: Published in New York Times, Le Figaro, and media appearances on BBC and Channel 4. Consultant to multinational companies.
