Dylan Jong is an Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business, Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance, and a researcher at the Centre for Research on Local Government Economics (COELO). His work focuses on the economic impacts of local governments, including decentralization, local public finance, quality of government, and spatial productivity. He holds a PhD and has contributed to policy reports on fiscal sustainability, municipal subsidies, and intergovernmental funding mechanisms.
Research interests include local fiscal policies, regional development, and the interplay between government structure and economic outcomes. He collaborates with institutions like the OECD Trento Centre and publishes in areas linking productivity to spatial and institutional factors. His work addresses topics like fracking's fiscal effects, urban productivity drivers, and tax burden distribution.
Jong advises on local fiscal challenges and has authored/co-authored over 15 publications since 2017. He teaches courses in economics and statistics at the University of Groningen and maintains active engagement in academic networks like the Regional Studies Association.
