Dylan Chan, MD, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He serves as Director of the UCSF Children’s Communication Center (CCC), focusing on multidisciplinary care for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, community outreach, and clinical research. His expertise includes pediatric hearing loss, cochlear implantation, chronic ear surgery, and velopharyngeal insufficiency.
Education and Training:
- PhD in Sensory Neuroscience, The Rockefeller University, New York
- MD, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York
- Residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Stanford University School of Medicine
- Fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology, Seattle Children’s Hospital
Research Interests: Dr. Chan’s laboratory investigates the genetics of Connexin 26-associated hearing loss and develops gene therapy approaches for hearing restoration. He also addresses health disparities in pediatric hearing loss treatment and outcomes.

Advising and Grants: As CCC Director, he oversees translational research and clinical care integration. His grants include funding for auditory genetics and pediatric hearing intervention studies.
