Dylan Burns

Dylan Burns is Assistant Professor of the History of Western Esotericism in Late Antiquity at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Amsterdam, where he leads the department of History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents. His work bridges classical philosophy and esoteric traditions, focusing on figures like Proclus and their intersections with Gnosticism and Neoplatonism.

Research interests include:

• Late Antique metaphysical systems, particularly Proclus’ Elements of Theology and the concept of henads.
• Esoteric hermeneutics, theurgy, and the interplay between myth and metaphysics in late antiquity.
• Comparative studies of Platonism, Gnosticism, and Hermetic traditions.
