Dr. Dwayne Cartmell is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Education, Communication & Leadership at Oklahoma State University (OSU), affiliated with the Ferguson College of Agriculture. He has been a faculty member since 2001, specializing in visual communications, particularly photography, and has developed the MS degree in Agricultural Communications at OSU. His research focuses on resilient rural communities, agricultural communication strategies, and international development. He has advised over 175 graduate students and received the 2022 Excellence in Graduate Advising Award.
Education includes a PhD in Career & Technical Education from the University of Missouri (2001), and multiple degrees from Oklahoma State University: MS in Agricultural Education (1998), BS in Agricultural Communications (1994), and BS in Agricultural Economics (1993).
Dr. Cartmell has led 75+ peer-reviewed publications and co-authored works on international agricultural projects funded by the U.S. Department of State. He pioneered the 'Photo Tour' summer course and led study abroad programs in over 10 countries. His awards include the Regent’s Distinguished Teaching Award and 2021 Fellow of the American Association for Agricultural Education.
