Duško Čakara serves as Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry and Laboratory Head of LCPI (Laboratory for Colloid and Physical Chemistry) at the University of Rijeka. His academic career at the institution progressed from Senior Assistant (2008) to Assistant Professor (2011) before achieving Associate Professor status in 2022. Prior appointments include Visiting Scientist roles at Maribor and Graz Universities (2007) and postdoctoral research at ESPCI Paris and Schering GmbH (now Bayer Healthcare) in Berlin (2004).
His educational background comprises:
- PhD in Chemistry, University of Geneva (2004), supervised by Professor Michal Borkovec
- MSc in Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb (1999), supervised by Professor Nikola Kallay
Dr. Čakara's research integrates advanced physical chemistry with materials science, focusing on ion-surface interactions in polyelectrolytes and thermodynamic equilibrium modeling. His work extends to optoelectronic characterization of composite thin films through spectroscopic ellipsometry, enabling precise analysis of electronic states. The laboratory develops novel experimental methodologies in colloid science while investigating nanoscale phenomena at material interfaces.
As LCPI director, he currently oversees ICONIC research examining how chemical and nanoparticle additives modulate electrochemical/spectroscopic properties of polymeric mixed ionic-electronic conductors, with Dr. Darko Gumbarević actively contributing to this project since October 2024.
