Dr Duy Nguyen is a Research Fellow in the Discipline of Speech Pathology at The University of Sydney's Sydney School of Health Sciences, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health. He is a member of the Sydney Southeast Asia Centre and affiliated with the Dr Liang Voice Program. His research focuses on voice physiology, voice disorder detection, and treatment methods, particularly in laryngology and vocal fold responses to injury.
Current projects include investigating pitch discrimination and voice quality relationships, voice assessment protocols, and effects of angiolytic lasers on vocal fold blood vessels. He has collaborated on studies involving telehealth voice assessment during the pandemic and aerosol-generating behaviors in clinical practice.
Key themes in his work include Communication Sciences and Disorders, with a focus on developing diagnostic tools and improving clinical outcomes for voice disorders. He has advised at least one research student, Christopher PAYTEN, on telehealth voice assessment methodologies.
Dr Nguyen has secured a grant for developing an online learning platform to bridge auditory-perception differences between Chinese and Australian speech pathology students. His research spans over two decades, with notable contributions to understanding muscle tension dysphonia in Vietnamese teachers and advancements in acoustic analysis techniques.
