His research spans classical political philosophy, American political thought, and Shakespeare's political themes. He explores the intersection of literature and political philosophy, focusing on Shakespeare's portrayal of the body politic, Xenophon's Socratic works, and Jefferson's republican ideals. His articles and edited volumes analyze the ethical dimensions of literary works, republican constitutionalism, and ancient concepts of virtue.
Recent publications include "Effectual Truth and the Machiavellian Enterprise" (2025), which reinterprets Machiavelli’s political philosophy through the lens of "effectual truth", and "Beyond Tyranny: Ethical Imagination, Erotic Education, and Justice in Shakespeare’s 'The Winter’s Tale'" (2024), examining how literature addresses tyranny, love, and justice. His 2022 book "Xenophon's Socratic Rhetoric" provides a monograph on Xenophon’s Symposium, and his 2017 work "Thomas Jefferson and the Science of Republican Government" scrutinizes Jefferson’s Notes on the State of Virginia as a coherent political treatise.
He has edited volumes like "Resistance to Tyrants, Obedience to God" (2013) and "Shakespeare and the Body Politic" (2013), which highlight the interplay between reason, religion, and republicanism in early American thought. His "The Quest for Excellence" (2016) and "Spartan Justice" (2009) further underscore his engagement with classical education, virtue, and justice.
