معرفی
Duncan Brown is the Vice President for Research and the Charles Brightman Endowed Professor of Physics at Syracuse University, where he leads the Syracuse Gravitational-wave Group. His research focuses on gravitational-wave astronomy, numerical relativity, and third-generation detector development.
Education
- Ph.D., Physics, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2004)
- Master of Mathematics (First Class Honors), University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (1999)
Research Interests
Dr. Brown's work centers on detecting gravitational waves from compact binary mergers using LIGO/VIRGO and advancing next-generation detectors like Cosmic Explorer. He explores neutron star properties, black hole dynamics, and high-performance computing applications in astrophysics.
Key Themes:
- Gravitational wave detection and parameter estimation
- Nuclear physics from neutron star mergers
- Reproducibility in multi-messenger astrophysics
Grants & Collaborations
Recipient of major grants including:
- "From Detector Hardware to Astrophysics: An Open Control and Analysis Architecture for Cosmic Explorer" (NSF)
- "NP3M - Nuclear Physics from Multi-Messenger Mergers" (NSF)
Teaching & Service
Teaches graduate courses in gravitational wave physics and high-throughput computing. Served on committees including the Syracuse University Senate Research Committee and the Physics Graduate Program Director.
Impact
Advances in gravitational wave detection have been supported by his development of metadata-aware workflows and contributions to the LIGO Scientific Collaboration.
