Duncan Bell is a Professor of Political Thought and International Relations at the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS), University of Cambridge. He is also a Fellow of Christ’s College, Cambridge, and co-directs the Cambridge Centre for Political Thought. His career has been centered at Cambridge since 2004.

His research intersects political theory, intellectual history, and international relations, focusing on:
- Modern British political thought and empire
- Settler colonialism
- Imagining humanity’s future through philosophy, science, and fiction
- Liberalism and political realism
His recent work includes a history of future imaginings from Darwin to AI and a monograph on H.G. Wells. His publications have won the Transatlantic Studies Association Book Prize and Francisco Guiccardini Prize, among others.
