Duncan A Young is a Research Associate Professor at the Institute for Geophysics within the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. His work focuses on polar remote sensing, glaciology, and planetary geophysics, with significant contributions to the Europa Clipper mission’s REASON radar instrument. He leads the Science Data System for Europa’s ice shell exploration and investigates ice-rock interactions in Antarctic ice caps.
Research areas include radiostratigraphy of Antarctica, subglacial hydrology, and planetary analog studies for Europa. He has led the COLDEX airborne geophysical project to map the southern flank of Dome A and contributed to BEDMAP3 ice data. His collaborations include roles in the Antarctic Digital Magnetic Anomaly Project and editorships for Advances in Polar Science.
Dr. Young has advised multiple graduate students, including Megan Kerr and Shivangini Singh, and serves on PhD committees. His research spans from Antarctic ice dynamics to extraterrestrial geophysics, emphasizing radar techniques for subsurface exploration.
Key projects include the Europa Clipper mission’s radar systems, Antarctic subglacial lake mapping, and geothermal heat flow studies. His work integrates aerogeophysical surveys with data standardization initiatives through the Open Polar Radar project.
