Duane Lee Holland Jr.

Duane Lee Holland Jr. is an Associate Professor of Dance and Director of the Dance Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he joined in 2022. He previously held full-time Hip-Hop professorships at Boston Conservatory at Berklee (2016) and University of Wisconsin-Madison (2019). His work bridges Hip-Hop theater, choreography, and arts education, with a focus on integrating Hip-Hop into academic frameworks.

Holland founded the organization CRĀV (Cultivating Revolutionary Artistic Virtuosity) for community outreach in the Philadelphia suburbs and nationally. His artistic projects include the music releases Life Expansion (2010), Love-n-Life (2021), and Maxx Remixed (2024), which accompany his one-man show The Adventures of Maxx Lancaster: A Journey of Black Masculinity, set to tour in 2026-2027.

In 2025, he became an affiliated faculty member of the W.E.B. Du Bois Afro-American Studies Department at UMass Amherst. His career spans collaborations with prominent choreographers like Bill T. Jones and Ronald K. Brown, as well as roles in Broadway productions.
