Duane Aslett

Duane Aslett is an Associate Professor and Director of the Centre for Law and Justice at Charles Sturt University (CSU). He holds advanced degrees including an LLD (Doctor of Laws) and has extensive experience in law enforcement, prosecution, and forensic services. Previously, he served at the North-West University as a Programme Leader in Forensic Accountancy and held leadership roles in the South African Police Service and National Prosecuting Authority.

His research focuses on cybercrime, organized crime, and financial crime, with particular attention to South African contexts. Notable areas include wildlife trafficking, AI-driven online harms, and legal mechanisms to combat illicit enrichment. He has authored crime fiction novels in Afrikaans and actively contributes to media discussions on cybercrime and financial regulation.

Recent publications explore topics such as wildlife trafficking networks, AI ethics in cybersecurity education, and South Africa’s capacity to criminalize illicit wealth. He is a registered supervisor for postgraduate research and collaborates on projects addressing global cybercrime challenges.
