Drew Gronewold is an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS), focusing on hydrological modeling and climate change impacts on water resources. He holds adjunct appointments in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
- PhD in Environmental Science and Policy from Duke University
- BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University
His research addresses uncertainty propagation in water resources management, predicting runoff in ungauged basins, coastal water quality dynamics, and Bayesian statistical integration. He leads the NSF-funded Global Center for Understanding Climate Change Impacts on Transboundary Waters.
Recent publications highlight his work on Great Lakes hydroclimate trends, large lake temperature extremes, and bathymetry impacts on weather prediction. He has secured significant grants from NSF and NOAA for climate adaptation and hydrological modeling.
Gronewold's lab collaborates on transboundary water rights, Indigenous community engagement, and climate resilience, with ongoing projects in Mono Lake, the Colorado River, Rio Grande, and Ogallala Aquifer. He has been featured in media outlets discussing Great Lakes water levels, warming trends, and regional water policy.
