Douglas McGregor serves as University Distinguished Professor and Boyd D. Brainard Departmental Faculty Chair in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering within Kansas State University's College of Engineering. He joined K-State in 2002 as associate professor, was promoted to full professor in 2008, and received University Distinguished Professor status in 2015.

Notable inventions include microstructured semiconductor neutron detectors (MSND), Frisch collar spectrometers, Li-foil neutron detectors, wearable radiation platforms, and micro-pocket fission detectors (MPFD), resulting in 23 granted patents and 22 provisional patents.
His scientific recognition includes five R&D-100 Awards alongside college-specific honors:

The Semiconductor Materials and Radiological Technologies (SMART) Laboratory he established spans 9,500 sq. ft. with dual clean rooms and dry facilities, representing the largest university-based radiation detector fabrication space in the United States.
