Douglas Mangum is a Lecturer at Western Washington University, where he teaches ancient history. He joined the institution in the current fall term. Dr. Mangum holds a Master of Arts in Northwest Semitic languages and literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD in ancient Hebrew from the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
His research integrates history, linguistics, literary theory, and Translation Studies to analyze classical Hebrew figures of speech in ancient biblical translations. Primary research interests include:
- History of the Levant and ancient Mediterranean
- Interpretation of euphemisms and idioms
- Historical linguistics and cognitive semantics
