Douglas Lapp is a Professor of Mathematics and Mathematics Education at Central Michigan University's Department of Mathematics, part of the College of Science and Technology. His work focuses on integrating technology into mathematics education across all levels. He was awarded the College of Science and Technology Outstanding Teaching Award in 2001.
Dr. Lapp holds a Ph.D. (1995), M.A. (1990), and B.S.Ed. (1988) in Mathematics Education from The Ohio State University. His research emphasizes technology-enhanced learning environments, particularly in algebra and linear algebra pedagogy.
His scholarly contributions include over two decades of publications exploring dynamic geometry, concept mapping in linear algebra, and strategies for gifted mathematics students. Recent work (2023) investigates active learning through robotic optimization and dynamic geometry tools.
Lapp teaches both undergraduate/graduate mathematics courses and mathematics education methodology. He is a member of key organizations like MAA, AMTE, and NCTM. Currently on sabbatical for Spring 2025, he advises mathematics majors via appointment.
His research consistently bridges theoretical frameworks with classroom practice, addressing topics like student misconceptions, technology's role in abstract concept mastery, and curriculum design for gifted learners.
