Douglas Kahn is an Honorary Professor at the Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney. He holds degrees from Evergreen State College (BA), Cal Arts (MFA), Wesleyan University (MA in Music Composition), and the University of Sydney (PhD in Art History and Theory). His work bridges sound studies, digital arts, and environmental humanities.

Kahn’s research explores intersections between sound, energy, and art. His publications include Energies in the Arts (MIT Press, 2019), Earth Sound Earth Signal (UC Press, 2013), and Mainframe Experimentalism (UC Press, 2012). These works examine sound art, early computing in the arts, and energy’s role in cultural production.
