Douglas Burns

Douglas Burns is an Assistant Professor and Sport and Exercise Physiology Laboratory Coordinator at DeSales University's College of Sciences, Department of Natural Science. He teaches courses such as Introductory Biology, Research Methods, Anatomy and Physiology, and professional courses in Physiology of Exercise, Kinesiology, Fitness Assessment, and Exercise Prescription.

• Education: Undergraduate in Physiology from Washington State University, Graduate studies in Human Performance at Pennsylvania State University

His research focuses on human temperature regulation in thermally stressing environments and metabolic responses to interval training and eccentric versus concentric exercise modes. He is affiliated with the American College of Sports Medicine and explores intersections between sport and faith.

Fr. Burns actively moderates DeSales University's Athletic Program, plans spiritual activities for athletes, and has coached swimming for over 30 years. He joined the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales in 1991 and was ordained as a priest in 1999.
