Douglas Boyle

Dr. Douglas Boyle serves as the Interim Vice Provost and Dean at the University of Nevada, Reno at Lake Tahoe, overseeing campus operations and academics. He previously held roles such as Associate Vice Provost for Research and Creative Activities and Nevada State Climatologist. He is a Professor in the Geography Department, with a focus on hydrologic processes and climate impacts on arid environments. His research integrates paleoclimate data, global climate models, and instrumental records to study water resources in semi-arid regions. Key themes include pluvial lake dynamics, storm track activity, and climate change adaptation strategies.

Dr. Boyle earned a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Southern California (1989), an M.S. in Hydrology from the University of Nevada, Reno (1996), and a Ph.D. in Hydrology and Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona (2000). His work is funded by NSF, NASA, USGS, and USBR.

His research interests emphasize interdisciplinary modeling to address climate-water interactions, with applications to water resource management, agricultural economics, and environmental policy. He has directed the Nevada Water Resources Research Institute and produced annual climate reports for state policy guidance. His publications span hydrologic modeling techniques, paleoenvironmental reconstruction, and climate change communication strategies.

Dr. Boyle collaborates on projects linking hydrological models to decision support systems, including cloud-seeding impact assessments in the Walker River Basin and groundwater management in arid regions. His recent work explores climate change impacts on agricultural productivity and integrates urban heat island effects into climate projections.
