Douglas Alsdorf is a Full Professor in the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University (OSU), affiliated with the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department. His primary research focuses on Congo and Amazon Basins hydrology, large tropical wetlands dynamics, and global change impacts using satellite-based measurements of water surface elevations. He holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University's Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department (1996), an M.Sc. (1991), and a B.A. (1986) from OSU.
His work addresses water flux dynamics, flooding patterns, and ecological interactions in major river systems. He has secured millions in external funding and published 80 peer-reviewed articles in top journals like Nature, Science, and Reviews of Geophysics. He co-edited the bilingual AGU Geophysical Monograph 'Congo Basin Hydrology, Climate, and Biogeochemistry', a landmark publication with 28 chapters reviewed by over 50 experts.
Teaching includes introductory Earth Science courses for thousands of undergraduates and a finance course for first-year students. His lab (Mendenhall Lab 383) supports interdisciplinary research on Earth systems and environmental science.
