Douglas A. Reed serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Washington, where he teaches courses including Transition Metals (CHEM 416/516), Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory (CHEM 317), and Grant Proposal Writing (CHEM 500). His contact office is CHB 204K, and he is actively accepting new graduate students.
His research centers on synthesizing functional hybrid materials through interdisciplinary approaches combining inorganic, organic, and nanomaterials chemistry. The Reed Lab focuses on engineering nanoscale structural, electronic, and magnetic properties for applications in electronic devices and environmental remediation. Key methodologies include diffraction, gas sorption, spectroscopy, magnetometry, and device fabrication.
Notable recognition includes the 2024 Scialog Collaborative Innovation Award. Current research trajectories explore metal-organic frameworks for gas binding and atomically precise hybrid clusters for quantum devices.
- Scialog Collaborative Innovation Award (2024)
Professor Reed mentors graduate students in materials synthesis and characterization techniques while securing research funding through initiatives like the Scialog award. His lab maintains active collaborations stemming from prior academic appointments.
The Inorganic, Organic, and Hybrid Materials Laboratory (established Summer 2022) operates as his primary research space, emphasizing emergent physical phenomena in nanoscale systems.
