Doug Yarrington

Doug Yarrington is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Colorado State University, serving as Undergraduate Coordinator for the Latin America concentration. His office is located in Clark B353, and he can be reached at Doug.Yarrington@colostate.edu. He holds a PhD from the University of Texas-Austin (1992).

Yarrington’s research focuses on Latin American history, with a recent shift from Venezuelan history to Chile’s late colonial and early republican eras (c.1760–c.1860). His work examines tax farming systems, state-society relations, and the impact of liberal republicanism post-independence. Current projects explore fiscal modernity and anticorruption dynamics in Venezuela’s neopatrimonial state.

His publications span books and articles addressing corruption, political economy, and state formation. Courses taught include HIST 411 (Latin America since Independence) and World History since 1500.
