Doug Shafer-Johnson serves as Director of Choral Activities and Lecturer of Music at Earlham College. He leads all choral ensembles including the Concert Choir and oversees performance opportunities across regional venues. Previously founded and directed the Circle City Chamber Choir, programming major works like Copland's Four Motets and Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb.
Education:
- M.M. in Conducting from Butler University (studied under Dr. Eric Stark, Dr. John Perkins)
- B.M. from Butler University
Research focuses on choral repertory spanning early Baroque to contemporary compositions, with expertise in works by Bach, Britten, and Copland. Professional membership in American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).
Engagements include preparing performances of Britten's Ceremony of Carols and Bach's BWV 4/225. Maintains active freelance career in central Indiana as conductor/performer.
Lives in Indianapolis with husband Lucas and two cats, Samson and Thomas Tallis. Enjoys cultural exploration through hiking, dining, and streaming.
