Doug Lorenz is a Professor and faculty member in the Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the University of Louisville’s School of Public Health and Information Science. He joined the faculty in 2011 after completing his PhD in Applied and Industrial Mathematics. His roles include teaching core biostatistics courses for MPH students, directing the online MS in Biostatistics program, and serving as a biostatistician in collaborative research projects.
- Education: PhD (2011), MSPH (2002), MA (2001), and BS (1999) in Mathematics from the University of Louisville.
- Research Interests: Biostatistical methods for clustered data, survival analysis, multistate models, and collaborations in pediatric emergency medicine and spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
- Grants and Funding: Co-investigator on NIH-funded projects on child abuse detection and spinal cord injury recovery. Includes roles on grants such as Validation of a fracture injury plausibility model (FxIPAM) and Clinical Decision Rules for Bruising Caused by Physical Abuse.
- Awards: Multiple University of Louisville Faculty Favorites, Delta Omega membership, Commonwealth Scholar designation, and election as a School of Public Health Alumni Fellow (2021).
Lorenz’s research focuses on methodological advancements in biostatistics, including handling informative cluster sizes and clinical decision tools for pediatric conditions. His collaborative work spans abusive injury detection, pneumonia diagnosis, and spinal cord injury recovery metrics. He has authored/co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications and serves on editorial boards and review panels.
