Dorte Mandrup is the Principal and Creative Director of her Copenhagen-based architecture studio, established in 1999. At Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD), she holds the Kenzo Tange Design Critic in Architecture role. She is also a visiting professor at Academia di architettura di Mendrisio (Switzerland) since 2021 and has lectured globally. Her work emphasizes site-specific architecture, integrating environmental and cultural contexts with innovative materials like bio-based and locally sourced solutions.
Her research explores the intersection of form, function, and place, addressing global challenges through projects such as the Wadden Sea Centre (pioneering vertical thatch construction) and the Kangiata Illorsua Icefjord Centre in Greenland. She teaches courses like Conditions: Context and Climate, balancing analytical and artistic approaches to architecture.
Mandrup’s awards include the C.F. Hansen Medal and the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture. She is Vice Chairman of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and a member of Berlin’s Akademie der Künste. Her practice bridges architectural intervention with social and environmental responsibility, shaping spaces that respond to both local and global scales.
