Dorri Beam is an Associate Professor of English at Syracuse University, affiliated with the LGBTQ Studies program. She specializes in 19th-century American literature, with a focus on gender, race, and sexuality. Her work bridges literary analysis with historical and cultural studies.
Education: PhD in English from the University of Virginia (2001).
Research Interests: Beam examines how 19th-century American writers addressed gender norms, racial politics, and queer identities. Her book Style, Gender, and Fantasy in Nineteenth-Century American Women’s Writing (2010) analyzes feminist literary strategies. Recent work includes reinterpreting Transcendentalist texts through queer frameworks and exploring intersections of abolitionism and gender.
