Dorothy Stone White (1903-1987) served as a Professor and Director of Theatre Arts at Frostburg State Teacher's College (now Frostburg State University) from 1954 to 1969. Her roles included teaching English, speech, and drama, directing theatrical productions, and fostering community engagement through theater. She established the Gamma Psi chapter of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and advised the Kappa Pi Cast of Alpha Psi Omega and the Canterbury Association. Her educational background includes A.B. and M.A. degrees from West Virginia University, supplemented by advanced studies at institutions like Carnegie Tech, Harvard, and Stanford.
Ms. White’s legacy includes pioneering theater productions in Compton Hall, expanding educational outreach via closed-circuit television, and promoting theatrical arts across Western Maryland. She emphasized etiquette and leadership through her mentorship in sororities and theater organizations. Post-retirement, she returned to Morgantown, WV, where she remained active in community and Episcopal church activities.
