Dorothy Kupara is a Senior Lecturer and Professional Lead for Children's and Learning Disabilities Nursing at the University of West London (UWL), College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare. She has been teaching since 2014 and is currently pursuing a PhD focused on Learning Disabilities Acute Liaison Nurses. Her expertise includes mental health assessments, leadership in healthcare, and the health of people with learning disabilities.
Her research interests center on intellectual disability nursing, particularly advanced/specialist roles, role clarity, mental capacity, and nursing practice evaluation. Collaborative work with colleagues has resulted in publications in journals like Journal of Intellectual Disabilities and Learning Disability Practice, covering topics such as nursing interventions, public health approaches, and mental health case studies.
Dorothy supervises BNursing (Hons) innovation projects and serves as an external examiner. She contributes to workforce development via the Capital Nurse Programme and sits on national advisory boards for acute liaison nurse initiatives. Her teaching includes non-medical prescribing and pre/post-registration nursing courses.
