Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dorothea Becker is a Professor of Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Social Sciences, Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, since September 1, 2015. She specializes in Building in Existing Contexts and Fundamentals of Representation, succeeding Prof. Stricker in 2017. Her career spans academia, professional practice, and jury leadership.
Education
- Studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich (1984-1989).
- Studied at the Polytechnic of East London (1989-1990), under Head of School Christine Hawley.
- Received her diploma from the Technical University of Munich (1991), supervised by Prof. Angerer.
Research & Professional Focus
Becker’s work bridges academic instruction and real-world application, with a focus on architectural design in historical contexts, urban planning, and sustainable renovation of existing structures. She has led high-profile projects such as the extension of the Bundesrat in Berlin (2014), conversion of Neustädter Kirchstraße 14 for the Bundestag (2011), and the redesign of the German Library in Leipzig (2004).
