Dorota Religa is a Professor and Senior Physician at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, where she leads the Dementia and Multimorbidity research group. She specializes in dementia, Alzheimer's disease, aging, and frailty, with a focus on registry-based studies using the Swedish Dementia Registry (SveDem) to improve care for patients with cognitive impairment and comorbidities.
Her research examines diabetes-dementia interactions, blood biochemistry trajectories, antipsychotic treatments for behavioral symptoms, and multidisciplinary approaches to neurodegenerative disorders. She has supervised over 50 doctoral and master's students, including projects on cardiovascular comorbidities, caregiver mental health, and pharmacoepidemiology.
Religa's recent publications focus on COVID-19 impacts in older adults, dementia care disparities, and novel diagnostic technologies. She collaborates internationally on projects like RADAR-AD for remote dementia monitoring.
Grants supporting her work include funding from the Swedish Research Council, Stockholm County Council (ALF), Alzheimerfonden, and Horizon 2020.
Her laboratory investigates modifiable risk factors in dementia, emphasizing clinical translation and health system improvements.
