Dorota Fox is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Culture Studies, University of Silesia in Katowice, where she conducts research on theatre history, particularly focusing on cabaret, revue, amateur theatre, and theatrical periodicals of the interwar period in Poland.
Her academic background includes a PhD (1998) and habilitation (2015), both from the University of Silesia’s Faculty of Philology, with research on cabaret theatres in interwar Warsaw and theatre periodicals from 1918–1939. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary cultural theory, exploring themes such as cultural memory, ritual performance, and the palimpsest nature of theatrical spaces.
Her recent publications examine ethnographic theatre as a medium of cultural memory, the revival of folkloric performances, and the evolving identity of Polish cabaret in modern media. She has also contributed to edited volumes on avant-garde theatre and urban performance spaces.
Her research has been supported by grants from the National Program for the Development of Humanities, including projects on Polish theatrical and social scenography (2017–2019) and the regained theatrical avant-garde in Central Europe.
She is an active member of scholarly communities, including the Polish Society for Theatre Research, the European Association for Urban History, and the Polish Academy of Sciences’ Literary History Commission. She also engages in academic outreach as an expert for the Polish Accreditation Committee and as a lecturer for public libraries.
