معرفی
Doron Aurbach is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Bar Ilan University, where he has served since 1985. He is a member of the Bar Ilan University Senate and leads the Electrochemistry Research Group, which comprises over 40 researchers and is among the largest in Israel. Aurbach also serves as the Director of the Clean-Tech Center at the Bar-Ilan University Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA) and as the leader of the Israel National Research Center for Electrochemical Propulsion (INREP), which includes 16 research groups from 4 academic institutions.
His research spans multiple domains of electrochemical energy storage:
- Physical Electrochemistry and Surface Science
- Materials Science for energy applications
- All battery chemistries (Li, Li-ion, Li-oxygen, Li-S, Na-ion, Mg, Lead-Acid, Al-air)
- Super-capacitors and electronically conductive polymers
- Water desalination by electrochemical means (CDI)
- Development of in-situ spectro-electrochemical tools
With over 480 publications and 21,000+ citations (h-index=75 as of 2015), his recent work focuses on advanced battery materials, electrochemical characterization techniques, and energy storage solutions, particularly lithium-based systems and novel electrode materials.
His contributions have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards:
- Rothschild and Fulbright Fellowships (1983-1985)
- Israeli Chemical Society Prize (1992)
- Electrochemical Society Battery Division Technology Award (2005)
- Israel Vacuum Society Research Excellence Prize (2007)
- Fellowships in ECS, ISE, and MRS
- Landau Prize for Green Chemistry (2011)
- Israel Chemical Society Excellence Prize (2012)
- Kolthoff Prize from Technion (2013)
- E.B. Yeager Award from International Battery Association (2014)
Aurbach has mentored 40 PhD students, 70 MSc students, and supervised 20 postdoctoral fellows. He leads the Israel National Research Center for Electrochemical Propulsion (INREP) with a 45,000,000 NIS grant from the Israel Science Foundation.
His research group employs comprehensive techniques including electrochemical, microscopic, spectroscopic and structural methods to understand surface chemistry, morphology, structure and function relationships in complex electrochemical systems related to power sources.
