Doris Heinrich

Prof. Doris Heinrich is a University Professor and Head of the newly established Group of "Biotechnical Micro- and Nanosystems in Life Sciences" at the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Technische Universität Ilmenau since October 2020. She concurrently serves as Director of the affiliated Institute for Bioprocess and Analytical Measurement Technology (iba) in Heiligenstadt.

Education:

• Bachelor's/Master's in Physics: University of Würzburg and University of Texas at Austin (USA)
• Doctorate in Physics: Technische Universität München (2003)

Research Focus: Her work centers on the physics of living cells, emphasizing quantitative analysis and control of cell interactions and functions. She specializes in biotechnical micro- and nanosystems applied to life sciences, bridging engineering and biological systems.

• Research Group Leader at Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research (Würzburg)
• Deputy Managing Director of Fraunhofer Project Center for Stem Cell Process Technology (2019–2020)

Current Initiatives: At TU Ilmenau, she expands teaching/research in life sciences, strengthens university-iba collaboration, and advances interdisciplinary research in cell analysis and bioprocess technologies.
