Doris Guth is an art historian and Assistant Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, affiliated with the School of Arts and Education and Department of Art and Design. She previously chaired the Working Group on Equal Opportunities (2001-2008), focusing on institutional gender equity and feminist frameworks within academic and artistic contexts.
Her research centers on the intersection of visual representation, gender performance, and cultural constructions of love, with expertise in analyzing lifestyle media, early modern visual art, and 20th-century feminist movements. She investigates how couples are depicted as ideological symbols through visual codes, body language, and spatial settings in mass media, connecting these representations to broader societal norms around relationships and identity.
Guth's scholarly work bridges historical analysis and contemporary critique, particularly examining how exhibition practices and art production reinforce or challenge gender politics. Her contributions extend to institutional advocacy through sustained engagement with equal opportunity initiatives at her university.
