Doorim Kim serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Performing and Media Arts at Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences. Based in upstate New York, she directs TOFU Studio production, creating experimental films and videos that explore the profound interplay of image and sound.
Her research investigates communication and communion through evocative symbolic imagery and rich soundscapes, emphasizing the contemplative spaces between sensory elements. This approach encourages audience introspection and imaginative journeys within pauses of visual-auditory sequences, revealing hidden meanings like emotions, time, and intangible pressures.
Kim teaches Media Production Laboratory (PMA 1410), Cinematography and Visual Storytelling (PMA 3580), and independent study courses. Her feature film "A Whale Who Drinks a Fishbowl" has screened internationally at festivals including Korea's Misen-scene Film Festival.
As director of TOFU Studio, she leads collaborative film production that functions as a creative laboratory for exploring the language of moving images, recently featured in Cornell's PMA Studios events and Schwartz Center installations.
