Dr. Donna S. Sheperis is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling at Palo Alto University. She holds a PhD in Counselor Education from the University of Mississippi, an MEd in Community Counseling from Delta State University, and a BBA in Marketing from the University of Mississippi. With over 30 years of clinical and academic experience, her expertise spans telemental health, distance counselor education, supervision, and ethical decision-making.
Her research focuses on modernizing counseling practices through technological integration and addressing ethical challenges in clinical settings. She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed articles, multiple textbooks including 'Ethical Decision Making for 21st Century Counselors' (2024) and 'Clinical Mental Health Counseling: Fundamentals of Applied Practice' (2025), and contributes to professional organizations like the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling (past-president) and the ACA Ethics Committee.
Dr. Sheperis is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Board Certified Telemental Health Provider, and Approved Clinical Supervisor. Her work emphasizes adapting counseling education to contemporary challenges, including the impact of the pandemic on older adults' mental health and advancing equitable standards for telehealth practices.
