Donna Kashian is a Professor and Director of Environmental Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wayne State University, with appointments in Biological Sciences and Environmental Science and Geology. Her work focuses on aquatic ecosystems, environmental justice in urban areas like Detroit, and developing innovative monitoring tools for pollutants.
Education: Ph.D. in Zoology/Ecotoxicology (University of Wisconsin, 2002), M.S. Zoology (Michigan State University, 1998), B.S. Biology (Eastern Michigan University, 1993).
Research emphasizes contaminants, invasive species (e.g., quagga mussels), and microplastics. She integrates citizen science and collaborates on environmental justice initiatives, particularly addressing minority communities’ disproportionate exposure to pollutants. Key projects include the Center for Leadership in Environmental Awareness and Research (CLEAR), funded by NIH (2022–2027), and the T-RUST NSF grant (2017–2022) for urban sustainability training.
