Donna Butorac is a Senior Lecturer in Anthropology and Sociology and Deputy Head of the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry at Curtin University's Faculty of Humanities. She holds a background in applied and sociolinguistics, focusing on language learning, migration, and teachers' professional development. Her research bridges sociocultural dynamics, language policy, and migration integration.
Dr. Butorac coordinates the Anthropology and Sociology major for the Bachelor of Arts program, teaching across all degree years. She supervises Honours, Master's, and Doctoral students. Her work spans scholarly articles, book reviews, and conference contributions addressing migration, spatial science, and sociolinguistic identity.
Her publications highlight interdisciplinary themes: transportation spatial analysis (2018), migrant inclusion through language and race (2014), sociolinguistic theory critiques (2013), and identity negotiation in migration (2010). These contributions underscore her commitment to understanding language’s role in social structures and policy.
Dr. Butorac’s career includes roles as a policy advisor on student language proficiency (2012–2015) and teaching in Australia’s settlement English programs. She emphasizes applied research with societal impact, blending academic rigor and practical educational strategies.
