معرفی
Dr. Donald Miller is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Manitoba's Max Rady College of Medicine. He holds adjunct roles at the Kleysen Institute for Advanced Medicine and the Research Institute in Oncology and Hematology (RIOH). His research focuses on blood-brain barrier (BBB) function, drug delivery systems, and nanomedicine applications for treating brain tumors and neurological disorders. He leads the Nanomedicines Innovation Network (NMIN) and collaborates internationally on therapeutic development.
Education:
- PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Kansas (1991)
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Bethel College (1985)
Research Interests:
- BBB permeability under normal and pathological conditions
- Development of nanoparticle drug delivery platforms
- Biomarker identification for brain tumor therapy monitoring
- Inflammatory processes impacting brain endothelial function
Publications Trends: Recent work emphasizes BBB modulation via peptides and nanoparticles, glioblastoma therapy resistance mechanisms, and multi-omic approaches to tumor recurrence. Collaborative projects include the Open Pediatric Brain Tumor Atlas (OpenPBTA) and microfluidic BBB models.
Scientific Awards: Notable honors include the 1995 Young Investigator Award (AACP), CFI New Opportunities Award (2005), and visiting professorships at Mayo Clinic and Acadia University.
Grants & Advising: Currently mentors Master's and PhD students, with expertise in grant reviews for NIH, CIHR, and EU programs. Active in industry collaborations (e.g., Vireo Systems Inc., University of Vienna SFB35).
Labs & Teams: Principal investigator at Kleysen Institute and member of NMIN's HQP Advisory Committee. Research integrates bioengineering, genomics, and clinical translation for CNS diseases.
