Donald Miles is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University. He is affiliated with the Ohio Center for Ecology and Evolutionary Studies (OCEES) and the Quantitative Biology Institute, conducting research on evolutionary ecology and morphological adaptation in reptiles. His laboratory is located in Life Sciences Building, rooms 130 and 131, on the Athens Campus.
His primary research interests include:
- Comparative methods in evolutionary biology
- Ecomorphology and locomotor performance in Urosaurus ornatus (tree lizard)
- Dominance behavior and physical performance
- Cost of reproduction in Uta species (with Barry Sinervo and Tony Frankino)
- Hormonal regulation of behavior and fitness
- Evolution of sexual size dimorphism in Galapagos lava lizards (Microlophus)
- Life history evolution and the evolution of viviparity in Sceloporus lizards
His work integrates quantitative approaches with field and laboratory studies to understand how ecological and physiological factors shape evolutionary trajectories in reptiles. Although no publications or student advisees are listed in the provided text, his long-standing collaborations and lab presence indicate sustained research activity. He has been involved in significant collaborative research, particularly with Barry Sinervo, a well-known figure in behavioral and evolutionary ecology.
Dr. Miles earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and maintains an active research program supported by institutional affiliations and lab infrastructure at Ohio University.
