معرفی
Donald M. Chiarulli is a Professor of Computer Science and Computer Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, where he has been a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science since the early stages of his career. His work bridges theoretical and experimental research in computer architecture, focusing on cutting-edge technologies that reshape system design.
- Ph.D., Computer Science, Louisiana State University (1986)
- M.S., Computer Science, Virginia Polytechnic Institute (1979)
- B.S., Physics, Louisiana State University (1976)
Dr. Chiarulli’s research centers on Experimental Computer Architecture, with a focus on optical computing, photonics, MEMs, micro-fluidics, and 3D integration. A hallmark of his work is the development of experimental prototypes and cycle-accurate models to validate architectural innovations.
His recent publications explore topics such as associative processing using coupled oscillators, 3D integrated circuits for lab-on-chip applications, and multi-bit-differential signaling. These works span disciplines including Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Nanotechnology, with subfields like Network-on-Chip, Parallel Processing, and Optical Interconnects.
- Best Student Poster Award, 11th LCI International Conference on High-Performance Clustered Computing (2010)
Dr. Chiarulli collaborates extensively with Professor Steven Levitan on projects like the POPS architecture and DRAFT architecture, which led to patents and influenced industry standards like Intel’s MMX instructions. His teaching includes advanced courses in digital design and mobile robotics.
