Donald Harper is the Centennial Professor of Chinese Studies at the University of Chicago, affiliated with the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations. His research focuses on early Chinese civilization, particularly the intersections of philosophy, religion, and the history of science.

Professor Harper's current projects include a book-length study of early Chinese religion based on newly excavated manuscripts from the Warring States, Qin, and Han periods. He also collaborates with scholars in Paris to analyze Dunhuang manuscripts related to divination traditions and comparative research on early Chinese divination and science.
