Dr. Donát Rétfalvi is an Associate Professor at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), Institute of Architecture, Department of Interior, Applied and Creative Design. He has held leadership roles including Head of the Institute of Architecture (since 2018) and Head of the Department of Visual Studies (2015–2018). His academic career spans over two decades, with teaching and research contributions in architectural education and design.

Rétfalvi’s research interests focus on residential and public building design, heritage protection, architectural theory, and digital presentation techniques. He has pioneered projects integrating 3D visualization, VR, and open-source tools in architectural education, including the development of a 3D VR e-learning curriculum. His work emphasizes sustainability, community engagement, and the social impact of architecture.
Academic leadership includes supervising 126 final design projects (18 award-winning) and doctoral students at the Marcel Breuer Architectural Doctoral School. He has contributed to international research collaborations in the Philippines and the U.S., and participated in EU-funded initiatives like EFOP and TUDFO.
Scientific awards include the Master Teacher Gold Medal (2021) and Mihály Pollack Medal in silver and bronze grades (2021, 2017). Rétfalvi is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), Association of Hungarian Architects (MÉSZ), and Chamber of Hungarian Architects (MÉK).
